Tyler Power, Dr. Clint Blackwood and I had an exciting morning July 31st. About 200 people met in the Skyline High School parking lot for a bike event that helped raise money for the 4th Street Clinic here in Salt Lake City. Temperatures were going to get into the high 90s by the afternoon so the ride started early. The three of us tackled the 2 Canyon ride (Emigration Canyon and Millcreek Canyon) rather then the 4 Canyon ride (maybe next year). After spending so much time riding the canyons of Utah I don't think I am ever going to want to ride a race where the road is flat.

3:36:50
45.05 Miles
4,833 Elevation Gained

Dr. Blackwood sporting his U of U gear and TPow rockin a pre-race smile (it wouldn't last long).

Riding solo with my back to the sun to the summit of Emigration Canyon.
At the top of Millcreek Canyon.

WOD
My brother (who lives in NY) challenged me to do 5000m on the Concept 2 Rower in 20 minutes.

Boom!

5000m on the rower:
0-1000m - pain begins to slowly build in the quads, but otherwise the first 4:00minutes were fast paced start to what would turn into a long 20 minutes.
1000-2000m - by the 8:00minute mark my mind started to get in on the action, but I kept a solid pace throughout the halfway mark never dropping below 2:00minute for 500m.
2000-3000m - my quads and forearms started to pump with blood and I really had to focus on controlling my heart rate and breathing. My body really wanted to stop, but once I passed the 12:00minute mark I knew 5000m was doable.
3000-4000m - This was the worst part of the battle. I had fallen a little behind and need to gain about 100m back because I didn't want to have to sprint at the end. So, I picked up my pace a little.
4000-5000m - I really pushed it hard the last 4:00minute - almost to a sprint pace. My quads, forearms, biceps, and upper back held strong and I finished 5000m right and the 20:00 minute mark.
