* doing more races makes you a better racer
* hard training allows for hard racing
* not practicing skills makes you struggle at those skills (swimming)
* having goals and then envisioning yourself accomplishing those goals makes is difficult to quit when you are in the moment and about to accomplish something great.
* half of accomplishing something great is what it took you to get there
* watching people struggle in a race is just as emotional as racing if not worse
Super flat course which made it feel like the bike and run moved fast, but in the end the 40 year old dude that won the Olympic race beat me by over 20:00 minutes and finished the bike (25 miles) in under and hour. Beastly. Lots of skills to learn and strength to build still. I mind was strong and the game plan I created kept me on a course to accomplish my goals. Everything went well except for swimming for 300m in the wrong direction then realizing my mistake and having to backtrack back onto the course.

Sometimes people get thrown into the deep-end of the pool to learn to swim, and that's kinda what my sister did. She jumped into this race and committed to finish. I don't think she got the results that she wanted, but she finished and learned a lot about herself. I was surprised by her while out on the course. She was finishing her last mile when I was just starting my run, and when I saw her I was overcome. I don't know why, but it was emotional watching a loved one struggle. The same way I feel watching Kristin race.

Post-race: 2nd in age (30-34) Kristin
