huntsman140

Huntsman140 aftermath is almost finished.  I was back to work today after a couple days of restoring energy and letting my legs heal. Honestly, I have never worked so long and so hard except as a missionary.  8 hours of total time and 7 hours on my bike.  I rode from Delta to SLC with about 200 other riders.  The first 30 miles seemed like I was warming up in the comfort on Vitality, but after the first rest stop the group started to break apart and the stronger riders started pulling away from the pack. I got stuck in the pack of a smaller pack that lost the front group and as a result found myself in the middle of nowhere, with Jace, from mile 40-62.  We had our second rest stop in Eureka, UT and then dropped for 9 miles to the back side of Utah Lake.  Head winds and a rising temperature made mile 70-100 pretty miserable.  Good friends helped pass the time, but by 1:00 I was ready to get out of the saddle for lunch.  I took a 15 minute break at mile 100 for food and drink and then powered my way to the finish line.  It was hot when I finished and I couldn't keep my quads from cramping.  They were on the verge of cramps, but I kept working and they held on to the finish.  It was a great event and I learned a lot about myself and those I rode with.

Heard this quote during the race and enjoyed it, "Why be consistent when extremes periodically gather more attention? 'I'm on a cleanse, I'm doing P90X, I training for a barefoot marathon..'"
