Friday // Saturday:
Chris rocked the 100 pull-ups, 100 push-ups and 100 squats in 7:00 minutes last week, and I was a little disturbed that he bested my time by over a minute. He is the superior athlete, but I wasn't convinced 8:16 was my best effort. So, I plugged into White Snake and set the timer for 7:00. I ended up finishing in 7:09 -- a little over a minute faster with nothing more then being motivated by someone else's time. A little friendly competition can go a long way.
I am entering the final weeks of preparation before the SG Olympic Tri (May 21st) so I am scaling the weights and focusing on the sports. My legs felt strong and fast on Friday's 30 mile ride and 5 mile run. I found a great route along 2000 East to Wastach Blvd to 9000 South. It's fast, flat and has relatively few traffic lights. When you hit the mouth of Big Cottonwood Canyon (going south past Seven Eleven) the traffic is crazy, but that is the only part of the route that I feared for my life. Either way, it was nice to be outside in the sub 50 degree weather freezing my balls off on my bike.
From Seth Godin:
If you're looking for 'how', if you're looking for a map, for a way to industrialize the new era, you've totally missed the point and you will end up disappointed. The nature of the last era was that repetition and management of results increased profits. The nature of this one is the opposite: if someone can tell you precisely what to do, it's too late. Art and novelty and innovation cannot be reliably and successfully industrialized.
In 1924, Walt Disney wrote a letter to Ub Iwerks. Walt was already in Hollywood and he wanted his old friend Ubbe to leave Kansas City and come join him to build an animation studio. The last line of the letter said "PS I wouldn't live in KC now if you gave me the place—yep—you bet—Hooray for Hollywood." And, just above, in larger letters, he scrawled, "Don't hesitate—Do it now."
It's not 1924, and this isn't Hollywood, but it is a revolution, and there's a spot for you (and your boss if you push) if you realize you're capable of making a difference. Or you could be frustrated. Up to you.
