I would consider myself a newcomer to the world of cycling. I don't know jack about how to fix my bike and I have never competed in an actual bike "race." With that said, I also don't know what the "normal" amount of flat tires a ride should be getting during normal training and riding, but it seems to me that my "normal" amount is getting ridiculous. Flatted last week. Replaced the tube. Flatted again yesterday morning (same tire). Replaced the tube and tire. Flatted twice this morning (same tire). Could there be anything more frustrating? I even took the tire into Millcreek yesterday to have them look at it and they declared it fit for use. Maybe the tape is worn or there is a small metal bur we can't see, but either way I almost chucked my rim and all into the creek the runs down Big Cottonwood Canyon this morning.
Before the flats I had a painful yet searching climb up to Donut Falls this morning. No one was on the road. It was just me and the cold fall air. Moving through the darkness with nothing but the sound of that machine under me. I have ridden my Orbea all summer and finally moved my gear over to my Specialized. Such a different feel on my legs and the power they produce.
I am on a mission to create more power -- at all costs.
