Here is a side by side comparison of the Jordanelle Olympic Distance Tri from 2009 and then from 2012. Numbers tell the story. There is marked improvement over the 3 years, but nothing to get that jazzed about. The run on Saturday almost broke me -- the transition area at this triathlon is place out on the pier about 1.5 miles away from the main road. The finish line is about 1 mile away from the transition area, so no matter how you look at it you have a considerable amount of work to do after the race is over. I was alone and it was in the mid 80s by the time ended. These factors had me wrapped around their finger. Kristin was at the doctor at the time of the race and Ava was at home with a babysitter. My heart was troubled and I simply couldn't get my mind to control my legs. 8:00 minute miles seemed fast enough and that's what a put out. I walked back to the transition area after the race and then biked 4 miles back to my car. Barfed, and then drove home.
Lesson's Learned:
Prepare better for the elements of the race. It was freezing when we arrived and in the 80s when we finished.
If I am going to race then I need my mind on the race, so when it comes time to suffer I have pre-determined my response.
