emigration canyon

People who are too weak to follow their own dreams will always find a way to discourage yours.

from the MAFU Facebook Page:
"My dear MAFU friends. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this special exclusive group, even though I am fat and flabby. I am about to embark on my first Triathlon in Bear Lake in just 5 short weeks. I must admit, I am terrified. I'm scared that I'll get kicked in the face during the swim, I'm scared I'll fall off my bike, and I'm scared of spurting diarrhea during the run. I'm just basically going to try to finish this Tri without dying of a heart attack. That's a baker's dozen Bob. I don't have mental toughness or fanatical effort. I don't have MAFU yet... but I do have many reasons to start this triathlon journey. I'm doing it because I'm turning 35 in a few months. I'm doing it for my sweet girls. I'm doing it for my husband. I'm doing it because I love myself. I'm doing it because I can. I'm doing it because I want to do something different, something awesome. So if you are in Bear Lake on August 13th, and you see me drowning, please offer me a hand and cheer me on. I'm going to need all the help I can get. I'm so grateful to have all of you as my MAFU friends, each and every one of you are an inspiration to me. I hope to someday become great athletes and competitors like you!"

Wednesday brings my rest from CrossFit training and brings a hard TT or Race Pace test. Jameson, Jace and I tackled Emigration Canyon at a break neck pace this morning. We took the 5.5 miles along Wasatch Blvd to warm up and get the heart rates up. Then when we hit the mouth of the canyon (right above the zoo) we marked our watches and dropped the hammer. From the bottom to the top of the canyon it's about 7 miles. My legs were heavy from yesterdays leg work and my stomach got sick about half way, but there was no way I was going to let up. Today will be a full day of recovery and hopefully tomorrow I will be recovered enough to bring it.

My HR had climbed to 135 on the ride over to the canyon, but after a minute into climbing it had jumped to 165 and decided to stay at 170-173 for the rest of the ride. Either way, the result of maxing my heart rate for 33:00 minutes has left me useless. It's 5+ hours after the ride and I still feel like somebody worked me over with a steel toed Kodiac work boot.
